Southern Tanzania Safari and Island Yoga Retreat

$9500 per person sharing (Single supplement $1000)

  • Personally hosted by an expert naturalist safari guide: Phil Bennett and Yoga instructor: Karen Gamble.

  • Small intimate group: 10 guests max

12 nights discovering nature and reconnecting with the wild in Southern Tanzania, we visit 2 iconic national parks, followed by a four night Yoga and wellness retreat on the tiny and historic Chole Island off the coast of Mafia Island.

This safari is designed to follow the natural flow and energy of Southern Tanzania's (and ours as humans) life blood: Fresh Water and its flow through natural landscapes and out into a rich marine reserve at the end.

We start our journey as does the life blood of Southern Tanzania, with the waters that flow from the Southern highlands in the East through the Great Ruaha river, where it flows through Ruaha National Park. Enjoying 4 nights and three full days exploring this remote, wild and rugged ecosystem, before we follow our "flow" to Nyerere National Park (ex Selous). Here the Great Ruaha runs into the Rufiji River and the water we have followed down stream, meanders into the coastal lowlands. We shall enjoy boating on the oxbow lakes in this lush green tropical savannah wilderness where Hippos, elephants and a multitude of spectacular species abound for 3 nights. To complete the trip and our personal journey of the river courses, we shall fly to Chole Island, a tiny island off of Mafia Island, South of Zanzibar. Here the water we have followed (and that has spread out into the Indian Ocean at the mainlands Kilwa Delta) enriches the waters surrounding our island and its marine reserves giving life to important mangroves and coral reefs where life abounds and if we get really lucky may bring us the opportunity to see Whale Sharks.

This special, expert led safari has been designed specifically to help us rediscover our place within nature. The three lodges have been chosen for their rustic charm and authenticity. Extremely comfortable, with exceptional service and hospitality, they are (mostly) disconnected from the outside world and all the trappings of it. We will have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in nature without worrying about what the next email might say.
